Forever and a Day

Four Seasons

Copyright 2006 by Christopher M Solaas.

Our lives go through seasons, like the seasons of the year. The Spring, our fun loving youth. The Summer, our Early adult years. The Fall, our Middle-Age years, when the kids are almost grown. The Winter, our Senior years, when our grandchildren come to delight our hearts, and we look forward to the day when we can be with Him who died for us.

This song was written when I was in college, dealing with the impending death of a Grandmother who had lived with us, and my father, who was not well at the time and later went on to be with the Lord.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
I am the Spring, and I bring the warmer breezes
And the purest dawns, baby fawns,
And daffodils are yellow.
I bring the mirth, And the birth of baby rabbits,
While from mountain springs, laughter rings
And life is gold and mellow.

Chorus:
Why does it always have to end?
What walks of life await around the bend?
What time is left for us to spend?

Verse 2:
I am the Summer,
And life abounds in colors,
With the greenest trees, bluest seas,
The roaring surfs and beaches.
I bring the heat, and the waving wheat
While breezes blow on dusty trails, in billowed sails
While we learn what life teaches.

Chorus:
Why does it always have to change?
Why do our destinies seem pre-arranged?
It seems that life is oh, so strange.

Verse 3:
I am the Fall, and all the leaves are yellow
Wrapped in cloaks of red, and some are dead
But all are set in sorrow.
I bring the nights
With the lights of misty stars
Set in velvet skies like diamond eyes,
But what will come tomorrow?

Chorus:
Why do we always have to cry?
Why do we care about the days gone by?
How can we give that last goodbye?

Verse 4:
I am the Winter
And I bring the silent stillness
In the falling snow, but children grow,
And life seems short behind them.
They go to church and they search the Holy Scriptures
For the promise there, and find God cares,
But night is sure to find them.

Chorus:
Why do we always have to die?
What journeys wait upon the other side?
Will God Himself then dry our eyes?
